Woman on bridge grabbed from behind by stocky man wearing down jacket and sexually assaulted

Police decided to reassure the community after a 25-year-old woman was forced to flee the man in Petersfield.

The incident happened between 12:45 a.m. and 1:05 a.m. on Monday May 16, as the victim was sitting on a concrete deck in Goodyear Meadow listening to music when an unknown person approached of her from behind.

“The man then pulled her off the bridge and sexually assaulted her before she managed to flee,” police said in a statement.

The man is described as black, 25 to 30 years old, 5ft 11in to 6ft tall and stocky.

He wore a black hooded puffer jacket, black Nike sweatpants, black leather/leatherette gloves and black sneakers.

Basingstoke CID Detective Jonathan Duggan said: ‘While we are treating this as an isolated incident, we would like to reassure the local community that we are investigating thoroughly and that all investigative leads are being followed.

“We are really keen to hear from anyone with information that could help us identify the man responsible.

“Were you around at the time? Perhaps you saw a man matching the given description or saw or heard something suspicious?

‘Were you driving in the area at the time? Do you have dash cam footage?

“If you have any information that could help our investigation, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, it is essential that you contact us.”
