As the fall weather finally seems to seep around the oppressive wall of heat that marked the end of summer, it’s time to start thinking about what your cold weather wardrobe looks like. The hardest part for me has always been finding a jacket that isn’t completely useless but isn’t so heavy that I’m going to start sweating at any temperature above 50 degrees. The lightweight jacket is a must-have this season, but aside from the occasional hoodie or zip-up, I’ve always struggled to find something that adapts to the weather during the transition from summer to autumn. Luckily, like almost all of my fashion woes, Huckberry once again saved the day.

The Flint and Tinder Fatigue Vest is the jacket that bridges the gap between the cool days of autumn and the truly cold days of early winter. Without being too hot or completely unnecessary to keep you warm, the Fatigue Jacket is a way to stay comfortable in changeable weather without having to resort to something as casual as a hoodie. The jacket has a military style aesthetic in a classic fatigue green as well as the much bolder Frog Costume Camo Tan. Although not as overt in the Frog Suit Camo Tan, there are hints of camouflage under the collar and on the inside edges.

The jacket has two front pockets as well as two traditional pockets on hold, so you can store your phone, wallet and keys with ease. Inside each side there are large internal pockets to hold larger items. Because of this, I can literally fit all my stuff in this jacket when I go out without it looking unbalanced or too padded. This is a major plus for situations where I don’t have a backpack on me or don’t want to accidentally stab my leg with my keys.

The fit of the jacket is also quite comfortable without looking baggy or oversized. It should fit snugly over any long-sleeved shirt, and the length should ensure that nothing you wear underneath will extend past your back for most heights. Beyond that, the Fatigue Green shade in particular pairs well with almost anything. Army green can easily be worn with just about any major color without clashing heavily or drawing attention to other parts of your outfit. I’ve worn this jacket so many days in a row with almost every shirt and trouser combination I own, but not a single one looked out of place.

As for the comfort of the jacket, I’ve worn it with both long-sleeved and short-sleeved shirts underneath and never felt anything rough against my skin. In fact, the cotton is a bit stretchy, which was a pleasant surprise. Plus, with that stretch and the buttoned cuffs, you can easily roll up the sleeves if the weather heats up during the day or if you want a little more punk rock look.

The Flint and Tinder Fatigue Vest is a little thinner so once the real cold hits you’ll probably have to put it away until spring but when it comes to that crispy cold early fall I don’t think it there is a jacket that adapts better to the season.
